Over the past few years, I have engineered a wide range technologies from ultra-compact devices for neural interfacing to bio-robots using microfabrication for MEMS devices, optomehanical design, CAD modeling, FEA, design of chronically implanted devices, 3D printing, CNC machining, hands-on-assembly and hardware systems integration.

Technologies

Ultra compact arrayed microscope for brain-wide neural recordings.
  • I have engineered this head-mounted imaging device that can detect cellular neural activity from across the entire dorsal cortex during free behaviors in mammals.

  • I designed over 30 optoelectronics and and mechanical components using microfabrication for MEMS, 3D printing (FDM/SLA), CNC machining, laser cutting, die casting and molding.

  • Performed DFMEA and DFM analysis for structural parts.

A miniaturized chronic implanted neural interface.
  • I have developed this optical implant neural interface for multi-site cortical imaging at cellular resolution.

  • I developed a mechanical housing for micro-endoscopic cameras modules.

  • I performed bench-top characterization, tested for mechancial performance and implant bio-compatability.

  • Designed custom fixtures for performance testing and validation.

A tracking robot exoskeleton.
  • Designed and implemented a trajectory tracking cartesian robot platform that uses linear encoders for microscale perception of animal movement.

  • Constructed a table top cartesian robotic exoskeleton using linear actuators for closed-loop motion tracking.

  • Developed a mechanical frame design for the robot using aluminium extrusions and stainless steel sheets using precision cutting and CNC machining to meet structural and safety requirements.

  • I designed an enclosure design for an automated microinjector.

  • Performed material selection, GD&T, DFM, DFA and design documentation for critical and non-critical components.

  • Designed micro pipettes and dish holder for injection molding using high performance plastic.

  • Designed custom fixtures for performance testing and validation.
